An unforgettable slogan turned the Homemakers United Foundation into the unlikely target of online attacks in the aftermath of Tuesday's mass blackout.

Public anger over the power outage played out on social media, with Facebook users posting scathing one-star reviews of the Homemakers United Foundation's one-time campaign slogan, "generate power with love" (用愛發電).

Some went the extra mile and called the foundation's office to complain about the damages and inconvenience caused by the blackout, according to local reports.

Lu Chia-yu (呂佳育), a spokeswoman for the women's foundation, said the slogan had been adopted one year during a street demonstration against nuclear power.

The group said it had not foreseen the public using the tagline as a basis for criticism.

In a statement, the group urged the public to face Taiwan's energy policies in a more rational way.

"Everyone deserves their freedom of speech, but instead of making emotional statements, it is very important for all citizens to discuss the issue effectively and rationally," the group said.

Perhaps not unexpectedly, the group said that in response to the angry and irrelevant online attacks it has endured online, it was choosing to forgive, with love.
